When to use this tool

Match an existing MD5 checksum in a legacy archive; choose SHA-256 for new workflows.

Supported formats & limits

UTF-8 text or a file up to 20 MiB. A checksum identifies bytes; it does not prove who created a file. Whitespace and line endings change the digest. MD5 is for legacy checksums only. It is unsuitable for passwords, signatures or security.
